Pat Price - Eight Bells

Patrick Hilary Price Age 84, was surrounded by his family in Pacific Grove, CA when he died on August 5, 2012 due to complications following open heart surgery. Born February 1, 1928 in Coos Bay, Oregon, to Frank and Genevieve Price, Pat was raised on the family farm in Sunny Valley, OR along with his sister and five brothers. He attended high school in Grants Pass, where a visiting Benny Goodman inspired his love of jazz. Pat studied architecture at the University of Oregon in Eugene after serving as an air traffic controller in the Navy. He married Jean Roberts of Danielson, CT, and together they raised four children in a rambling old house in Mill Valley. After college in 1953 Pat moved to San Francisco where he dedicated 37 years to San Francisco Federal Savings and Loan Association until his retirement as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board in 1990.

A passionate sailor, Pat ("the Skipper") was a member of the St. Francis Yacht Club, and was influential in introducing many to the joys of sailing. Pat will be remembered for his love of art and music, especially jazz, opera and the symphony, and his many accomplishments due to his out-of-the-box thinking. He cherished his children and grandchildren, his family, close friends, and two Vizsla companions. He was a true renaissance man who loved life and lived it on his own terms. Family and friends have many fond memories of sailing adventures with Pat in the San Francisco Bay, Pacific Northwest, Mexico and the Caribbean. His kindness, generosity and storytelling abilities were appreciated by those who knew him (his lengthy political discourses were received with mixed reviews). We will miss his playful sense of humor, witty repartee, wise guidance, all-encompassing hugs, and the mountainous portions of ice cream he doled out after dinner.

He is dearly loved and missed by his four children, Hilary Price of Pacific Grove, CA, Cindy Fortner of Mystic, CT, Bryan Price of Scottsdale, AZ, and Julie Price of Ukiah, CA; his six grandchildren, Daniel, Carmen, Kelsea, Amber, Jordan and Madison; brothers Frank, David and Jerry Price; and his two dogs, Szyttia and Bella. His brothers Richard Price and Stephen Price and his sister Phyllis Russell preceded him in death. Pat will be returned to his beloved San Francisco Bay in a private celebration of his life. The family welcomes stories about Pat at a memorial website in his name, www.ilasting.com/patrickprice.php. PAT PRICE
