Bob VanBlaricom receives the CCA Richard S. Nye Trophy
Bob VanBlaricom was honored with the 2010 Richard S. Nye Trophy. The trophy is awarded to a member who has brought distinction to the Club by meritorious service, outstanding seamanship, outstanding performance in long distance cruising or racing, statesmanship in the affairs of international yachting, or any combination of the above. Stan Honey is named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year
US Sailing honored station member Stan Honey as the 2010 Rolex Yachtsman of the Year for 2010. The official announcement from USSailing recounts Stan's accomplishments this past year which included winning the Jules Verne prize and getting first in class in the Newport-Bermuda race. Bill LeRoy's Gone with the Wind places 3rd in Class 1 in the Newport-Bermuda Race
Bill LeRoy and crew placed 8th corrected out of 188 boats and 3rd in class. Sally Honey was the navigator. Historian John Sanford suggests CCA-SAF station members hoist a beer and cheer for Bill for his fine showing.
Groupama 3 breaks the round the world record to win the Jules Verne Trophy
With Stan Honey navigating, Groupama 3 became the first vessel to sail around the world in under 50 days, accomplishing this feat in 48d, 7h and 44m. Congratulations to Stan and all aboard Groupama 3. More coverage can be found here and here.
